On June 25, 2009, American singer Michael Jackson died of acute propofol intoxication after he suffered cardiac arrest at his home in the Holmby Hills neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, said he found Jackson in his room, not breathing, but with a faint pulse, and that he administered CPR to no avail.

After placing a call to 9-1-1 at 12:20 p.m., Jackson was treated by paramedics at his home, and later pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. On August 28, 2009, the Los Angeles County Coroner declared Jackson's death a homicide. Before his death, Jackson reportedly had been administered propofol, along with two anti-anxiety benzodiazepines: lorazepam and midazolam. Law enforcement officials investigated Jackson's personal physician. On February 8, 2010, Murray pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter, and was released after posting a US$75,000 bail. His trial is scheduled to start September 8, 2011. On this day, two years ago, I remember tearing up when I heard the news of MJ's death. Forget the molestation charges, forget the loony-ness, forget the crazy activities; all I knew about him was that his music brought much joy and happiness to so many people.

MJ's legacy is in his music. And what better tribute to an artist than to honour to some of his greatest works. Here is a selection of some of my favourite MJ music. Whether you have heard of it or not, do leave your comments on your favourite MJ music too.

MJ - The early years

Some of his early music may not have been huge hits, but were the stepping stone to his illustrious career. Those dance moves were not quite MJ-esq, the voice was still a little silvery; but the stage presence and confidence was there from the very beginning. Here's some of my favourite 'early days' songs.

MJ - The superhits

This is my favourite MJ phase. Thriller, his 6th album, was, and still remains the highest selling albums of all time, with anywhere from 65 to 110 million copies sold worldwide. With 'Thriller', MJ officially put TV channels like MTV into the picture, and turned music-video making into a sought-after career. Here are my favourites.

MJ - The King of Pop

As the undisputed royalty of music-making, MJ turned to philantropy, and made music that was socially-aware. This phase has some of the most heart-warming songs you will ever hear. Here are my favourites from this stage.

MJ - The collaborations

MJ collaborated with the top artists of the time to make some exceptional music. Here are some of his best collaborations.

Today, as we remember the King of Pop on his 2nd death anniversary, more than anything else, let's remember his music. Hope you enjoy these songs.
