Best of the Press Photographer's competition

A selection of some of the images from this year's Press Photographer's competition, held to highlight some of the best pictures taken by and used for the news media over the last 12 months. These snaps are part of the 136 images selected by a panel from over 8000 entries. The annual competition supported by Diageo and Canon is in its sixth year and can be viewed at the National Theatre until 4th September.

Neil Hall- INS. UKIP candidate for the Buckingham constituency, Nigel Farage, pulled from the wreckage of a plane having narrowly escaped death after it crashed to the ground at Hinton Airfield. Farage had attempted to fly a UKIP Banner from the light aircraft which caught in the plane's tail causing the accident. Northamptonshire. May 6th 2010
