It’s located in the northern most state of India and is bounded by the Kunlun mountain range in the north and the Great Himalayas to the south. It is the highest plateau of Kashmir and spans the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges as well as the upper Indus River valley.

It takes about 4-5 days from the Indian national capital Delhi to Ladakh on a bike or by car. But many find biking/driving to Ladakh absolutely exhilarating and say that the journey in itself is an unforgettable experience.

For many the journey ends when they reach Ladakh after the 5-day drive. But it is when you reach Ladakh the real journey begins. There is so much to do and see. It is rich in culture and history. Some must visit places are - Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Choglamsar SOS Village and Stok Palace.


It’s Leh’s peace and calm which calls out to many as well. Many come seeking spiritual serenity here. There are several monasteries in Leh where many come looking to reconnect with themselves. The oldest and the most famous monastery is the Hemis monastery. Shey, Thiksey , Spituk, Phyang, Chemrey and Takthok are some of the other well-known monasteries here.


Since many come to Leh to get away from the city, escape their urban ways for a while and connect with nature – you could plan a visit to the Namgyal Tsemo Hill. The excursion to Khardung La Top via Nubra Valley is also highly recommended.

It’s just not the scenic and sheer natural beauty but also the nature treks of Ladakh which attracts backpackers and trekkers. The five-day Markha Valley Trek is quite popular. It takes you through the highest passes.
